He removed the glove from his left hand and stepped close to Tayno. She looked up, tears in her eyes and a tremble in her hooked chin. The heat suit faded in and out, cracking in the rain. Lewis ignored the flashes of nudity. “Rebecca. I need to read into your past? It is critical. Otherwise I would not do it.”

She continued to stare, not blinking and likely not even comprehending this thing that Lewis was asking. But neither did she resist when he kneeled down and placed a bare hand on her left shoulder.

It began like never before, as a murmuring in his mind that felt near and real followed by diminishing volume and then a vision:
